Looking for a heavy-duty detox drink to kick-start your day?  We think we’ve found it!

Nobody is perfect, and every now and then the gradual slide into unhealthy lifestyle choices (or even just a weekend of going overboard!) can leave your body craving a good cleanse. Most of us can tell when we’ve reached that point — you’ll probably wake up with a dry mouth and your digestive system may feel sluggish and bloated. That’s when you know it’s time to take a warming detox tea!

Any detox program or fasting period should start with something that gives your body and immune system a wake-up call.Oh boy does this powerful detox drink tick all the boxes!

The base of this awesome drink is made from our revitalizing organic Sencha, bringing you sustained energy and improved gut health as well as a blast of antioxidants. Add to that a generous pinch of turmeric and a dose of apple cider vinegar, both known for their anti-inflammatory properties, and you know that this detox drink is going to do you good.

This detox tea contains caffeine, so it is best enjoyed in the mornings to give your body a natural, healthy boost before a long day.  Drunk regularly, it may help you manage your weight more easily and help your body fight disease and ageing. That’s why we like it!

The Power of Sencha

We’re very proud of our award-winning [1] organic green Sencha. It’s the perfect detox tea, being packed full of polyphenols which support the body’s natural ability to repair itself. And did you know that there’s a strong inverse correlation between polyphenol levels in the body and obesity? The more polyphenols you have, the less likely you are to suffer from weight problems [2]. Sounds good? Yes it does!

Five Reasons Why We Love Apple Cider Vinegar

One of the reasons that this awesome detox tea stands out from your regular cup of morning green tea is the addition of apple cider vinegar (ACV), which fully deserves its growing reputation as a leading health food. Apple cider vinegar is apple juice that has been allowed to ferment. It has been used in folk medicine for thousands of years. Let’s take a quick look at what ACV can do for you.

ACV may lower your blood glucose levels

Perhaps the single greatest health benefit of apple cider vinegar is its effect on blood glucose levels. Numerous studies [3] have found that even small amounts, when consumed before or with a meal, are responsible for a lesser increase in blood glucose and insulin levels in response to eating compared to control groups.  In a world where diabetes is growing at epidemic rates, this benefit is nothing to be sniffed at. It means that the same meal is less likely to end up being stored away by your body as fat, and less likely to cause health problems later on in life [4].

ACV can help fight cravings

Apple cider vinegar might even help suppress your appetite and stop you from craving the unhealthy food and drink that caused you to need a detox in the first place. A study involving healthy adult women found that those that had been given vinegar at a morning meal ended up eating fewer calories throughout the day [5]. Drinking a detox tea every morning is likely to have a lasting effect on the size of your waistline. Nice!

ACV for gut health

One of the most overlooked, yet vitally important cornerstones of good health is having the right balance of gut bacteria.  Fermented products like apple cider vinegar contain plenty of good bacteria that help your digestive system to function properly [6].

A growing body of opinion now accepts that having the right bacteria in your gut may play a big role in influencing weight [7] and a whole lot more [10]. Whilst this research is only in the early stages and the true influence of bacteria on waistlines is not fully understood, there can be no doubt that getting the right bacteria in your diet is essential for a healthy digestive system and a strong immune system [8].

ACV for younger looking skin

Antioxidants are abundant in the green Sencha tea we use for this detox drink. But did you know that apple cider vinegar happens to be a great source of antioxidants too? Antioxidants are known for their ability to ‘mop up’ free radicals. Free radicals enter your body through the air you breathe and the food you eat. They’re unavoidable.  But if they stay in your body for too long then they start damaging your DNA. Yikes!

Benefits of Turmeric

Another ingredient that makes this detox tea stand out from the crowd is the addition of turmeric, which has gained something of a reputation as a super spice. Turmeric is another great source of antioxidants, and this golden spice has been connected to health benefits ranging from boosting immunity to promoting heart health [9]. The main active ingredient of turmeric is curcumin, which is known for its anti-inflammatory [10] properties.

Tasting Notes

OK so you can see why this is a genuine big hitter amongst the many detox drinks out there. But how does it taste? We’re happy to say it tastes delicious and is the ideal way of getting your daily dose of ACV and turmeric, which can otherwise be quite tricky to incorporate into your diet.   The grassy notes of the Sencha and the calming honey are the perfect foil for the health-boosting vinegar and turmeric. Topped with a slice of fresh lemon to bring it all together, this stuff is good health in a warm mug.  What better way to start your day? Enjoy!
