Lime Mint Sake Cooler

Invigorate your senses with this cooling cocktail full of tart lime, fresh mint and mint tea. A touch of agave nectar adds sweetness and balance while Japanese sake adds clean, mellow flavor.

If you’re in the mood to switch up your typical cocktail routine, a sake-infused cocktail may be just what you’re looking for. Sake is a Japanese liquor made by fermenting rice. The flavor of sake can range from sweet to dry and everything in between, similar to wine. You will notice after tasting a few different types of sake that their flavor notes can be clean, fruity, floral, mineral etc.

Some sake is clear, while others can be cloudy or milky because it is unfiltered, known as nigori. Junmai sake is perfect for this cocktail, but feel free to use your preferred sake. If you aren’t a fan of sake, vodka, white rum or gin can all be substituted.

Make this cocktail alcohol-free by substituting an ounce of sugar-free ginger ale for sake.

Mint tea is muddled with fresh lime and mint before adding the sake and agave nectar. This mint tea is caffeine-free for a cocktail that can be enjoyed well into the evening. Spearmint is the only ingredient in the tea, which supports healthy digestion. Spearmint is milder and sweeter than peppermint, making it perfect for blending into beverages without overpowering the other ingredients.

The ingredients are shaken and strained over large ice cubes before serving. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and wheel of lime.
