Want to be in the best possible health? It definitely helps to listen to what your body is telling you.

Have you ever experienced a time when nothing appeals to your jaded taste buds and you feel bloated and lethargic almost all the time? This could be your body’s way of letting you know that it’s time to detox!

Don’t worry — detox doesn’t have to be miserable!  Sometimes it’s as easy as drinking something delicious.  This Ginger Citrus Lemongrass Iced Tea is a solid favorite.  It’s caffeine-free and brings a burst of flavor to wake up and stimulate even the most sluggish digestive system.

Here’s why your body will thank you for taking the time to make this awesome drink.

Getting Rid of Toxins

It’s impossible to go through life without accumulating a build-up of toxins in your body.  It’s not just the obvious culprits like alcohol and cigarettes. Toxins are in your food, the air you breathe and the chemical products that are as much a part of 21st century life as apps and tweeting.

So what’s the problem? Well the problem is that these chemicals mess with hormonal function and have been linked [1] to fertility problems. Yikes!  So if you’re motivated to do everything you can to help support your body’s detoxification processes, this detox drink can be a delicious part of that plan.

Detox Tea to Boost Your Immunity, Suppress Hunger and Help Digestion

Our ginger digestion elixir (which forms the base of this delicious cooler) is in itself an awesome detox tea. The spicy ginger can help boost your immune function [2] and soothe digestive problems [3]. This delicious tea also contains licorice root which, as well as adding sweetness is known to control those food cravings, help control stress levels and build immunity [4].

And here’s a fun fact:  Did you know that licorice root is thought to be around 50 times sweeter than sugar [5] (without those pesky calories)? The tangy, uplifting citrus peel rounds off this spicy tea perfectly.

Why we love Ginger

Ginger has been shown [9] to be a powerful antioxidant and to have anti-microbial and anti-parasitic powers. It’s also been used for millennia to address imbalances of the digestive system and is known to have anti-inflammatory properties.

This stuff deserves a medal. Oh – and did we mention the great taste?  Ginger’s sweet, pungent kick leaves a wonderful, fresh, spicy aftertaste on the palate. It rightly deserves its place amongst the top superfood spices, but even if it didn’t, we’d be eating it for its great taste alone!

Health Benefits of Lemongrass

Lemongrass is an important extra in this refreshing detox drink.  This tropical grass is used extensively in South-East Asian cuisine to add hints of lemony, mint and gingery flavor.  But we’re not just adding it to our detox tea for its great taste.

This herb is an excellent source of flavonoids, including quercetin [10]. Quercetin is a polyphonic flavonoid with anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy properties [11]. Lemongrass is known [12] to have all kinds of anti-bacterial and antioxidant [13] properties.  In folk medicine, this unique herb has been used for centuries to treat everything from coughs and colds to headaches, vascular and digestive disorders. And those are just a few of its amazing health benefits. This is so much more than a twist of lemon.

Pregnancy Precautions

If you are pregnant, you should probably avoid consuming products containing high levels of ginger [14] and it also might be best to avoid licorice root [15] altogether. In any event, if you’re expecting a baby or trying to conceive, it’s advisable to speak to your doctor for advice before starting any proposed detox program.

Putting it All Together

So what does this awesome detox cooler actually taste like? If you like  doing a regular detox, you’ve probably tried quite a few detox drinks, so you’ll understand the potential problem with them.  Whilst quite a few detox drinks taste OK on the first sip, it can become an uphill struggle to face the drink again and again as the day wears on.

Well, you won’t have that problem with our ginger citrus lemongrass detox cooler!  It tastes deliciously refreshing and natural.

The citrus-ginger flavour, although very much present, is never overpowering. The added honey brings all the health-giving ingredients together beautifully without being too sweet. The sprig of fresh mint adds a perfect final lift. We love this drink and we’re pretty sure that once you try it, it’ll become a firm favorite with you too, whether you’re doing a detox or not!
