If you’re looking for a luscious pick-me-up that’s bursting with antioxidants, look no further than the umami of flavors in this sencha latte.
Sencha, a Japanese green tea brewed from the whole leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, contains antioxidants that have been shown to boost cognition (great for those foggy days when your brain refuses to get moving) and even help improve memory (1).
This recipe complements sencha with rich dark chocolate, which contains the compound theobromine that can help improve your mood and stimulate your brain function (2).
Rounded out with the fresh citrus flavor of orange peel, this brew is sure to give your taste buds an awakening as well.
- Small pot
- 1 packet Pique Sencha Green tea crystals
- 3/4 cup almond milk
- 2 teaspoons orange peel
- Dark chocolate squares
- Optional: raw honey or maple syrup to taste
Bring almond milk to a light simmer in a small pot over medium heat.
Empty one sencha green tea packet into a mug.
Remove the pot from heat and whisk the almond milk until a light froth forms. Pour over the sencha tea in your mug and stir.
Add the orange peel to steep.
While the tea and orange peel are steeping, very finely chop your dark chocolate squares into slivers.
Sprinkle shavings on top of your latte (or stir them in) and sip.
